April 20-24, 2009 will be “America Week” in Veszprém, with a series of events dedicated to the study of American culture. This program is a collaborative effort between American and Hungarian teachers and experts, many of whom are current and former Fulbright Scholars or serving officials.  From economy and music to politics, media, language policy, legal and environmental issues and even 9/11, these events will both explore and bring you closer to American culture from a variety of different perspectives.

Most of the events will involve lectures and panel discussions (featured talks) starting at 16.00 from Monday to Thursday and at 15.00 on Friday.

On Tuesday April 21, there will also be an American Folk Music talk and concert; and on Earth Day, April 22, Wednesday we will plant a tree together on the grounds of the university. On Thursday at 15.00 p.m. before the featured talks we will have an Opening Ceremony for the "Steverson Collection", a donation of thousands of books from the Steverson family to the AC.

Opening Address by Carolyn Glassman, Cultural Attache and Keynote Speech by Jeffrey D. Levine, Chargé d'Affaires from the American Embassy, Budapest.

“America Week” is sponsored by the University of PannoniaInstitute of English and American Studies, the Embassy of the United States of America in Budapest, the Hungarian Fulbright Commission, and the American Corner – Eötvös Károly County Library, Veszprém.

These events are free. The language of the talks is English.

All are cordially invited to attend.
